Pembroke Magazine accepts online submissions between September 1 and April 30. During September only, submissions are free! At other times, a $3 fee applies to support the magazine's operation expenses.

Response time is usually within two to four months, but keep in mind that we make most of our editorial decisions in May and December. Please only submit one category at a time, and wait until you receive a response on a submission before sending more work.

Unsolicited email submissions are not accepted. Simultaneous submissions are encouraged, but please notify the editor immediately if your work is selected for publication elsewhere. All submissions must be properly formatted and accompanied by a brief cover letter.

Rights revert to the author upon publication, and payment is two contributor’s copies.

For flash fiction and flash creative nonfiction, you may upload up to three pieces per submission. For standard-length creative nonfiction and fiction (up to 7,500 words), please upload only one piece per submission. Poets may submit up to three pieces.

A copy of the upcoming issue (55, summer 2023) will be mailed to you at the address supplied.

We accept unsolicited submissions of book reviews at no charge.
The book being reviewed should be a work of poetry, fiction, or creative nonfiction published no earlier than a year before the issue in which the review would appear. For example, reviews submitted for our next issue, June 2024 (Issue 56), should review books published no earlier than June 2023.
The reviews should be written for a general audience and avoid academic jargon.
Although we prefer book reviews of under 2,000 words, we are open to considering longer book reviews.
There is no fee for submitting a book review.
You may also pitch book review ideas by emailing the editors at pembrokemagazine@gmail.com.
We ask that you submit only one review at a time, and wait until you receive a response on a submission before sending more work.
Thank you!
